Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of “optimizing” your individual web pages to rank well in the major search engines like Google, MSN and Yahoo. Web page optimization includes things like keyword density and keyword analysis, link building and link popularity, website monitoring, among many other aspects.
Ultimately, you want to be in the top 10 results for organic searches. Organic searches are the non-sponsored (free) search results that display after typing in your keyword phrase. In Google you’ll see sponsored (paid) listings at the very top on the search results page (Google Adwords). SEO involves MANY aspects and can be quite overwhelming for most people who are not well-versed in Internet marketing.
